[TEXT] The Hot Date

Write about an average character who meets up with an extremely attractive character for a date. What does the attractive character look like? Where are they meeting for the date? Who is the waiter? What do they order?

The date takes a sudden twist when a fire breaks out in the restaurant. Does it happen at your characters’ table, a nearby table, or does it come from the kitchen? What is the evacuation of the restaurant like? Does the fire make the date better or worse? Do your characters go to another restaurant for dinner or do they grab hot dogs from a 7 Eleven?

What do you see? What do you feel? Why are you walking in the wheat field? Are you alone with your thoughts or did you bring someone out there to talk to in private? What do you want to change before you leave the wheat field?

Write about a character or a group of characters who walk into a bar.

What kind of bar is it? What time of day is it? What is the bartender like?

The catch is that you must end the story with the line: And he didn’t get up for three days.

Clue is a game of deduction. Most people are familiar with the guessing part of the game, which includes a character, a murder weapon, and a room—Colonel Mustard with the pipe in the Conservatory.

Write from the perspective of one of the Clue characters (list of characters) just before attending the party where a murder will take place with one of the possible murder weapons (list of weapons). Why is your character going to the party? Is he/she expecting to know anyone at the party? Does he/she like going to parties? Is he/she looking to network or get drunk? Is he/she expecting to leave the party with someone? Is the weapon he/she is bringing a gift or something he/she normally carries around?

Today's prompt is pretty ambiguous, but it's for a good reason. As a writer, you need to draw inspiration from everyone and everything around you. Answering pre-written prompts is a great form of mental exercise, but it doesn't inspire you to find inspiration on your own.
