Try writing a scene that is generally associated with incredible sights- a sunset at the beach, a city at night, etc.- but do it using only the other 4 senses.
Thousands of years ago, an alien race was at war. They needed soldiers, so they scoured the known universe in search of candidates. They found planet earth and abducted humans to breed and transform into powerful warriors.
Now the wars are over, the aliens victorious. They are returning the remaining humans to earth, feeling their obligation fulfilled.
What conflicts might arise from this influx of war heroes who know nothing of our ways? How will the soldiers feel about a people who know nothing of their sacrifices?
Enjoy!

So, today is my birthday. I wrote a little essay-thingy about growing older and hopefully it will inspire some of you to reflect on the life you've lived and will continue to live.

This is a quote from the G-Man of the Half Life games. Write a story in which one person makes a difference by being in the wrong place at the right time.

A minesweeper is combing through a suspected minefield. Vulnerable to sniper fire, lightly armed, and at constant threat of a detonation, he is under constant pressure. Then his detector goes off, but what he uncovers isn't a mine. What is it? How does it affect the sweepers state of mind? What memories does it stir?
Taking SurviviorType's great idea, here's another prompt based off of random words. Use word no. 1 as the first word in your story, use word no. 2 anywhere in the middle, and use word no. 3 as the last word.
Note: The word can be used away from the given positioning if it is in a sentence that can be reworded to put it in the right place. For example, if you had to begin with the word "gigantic," the sentence "The trees were gigantic" would still be fair game, as it can be reworded to "Gigantic were the trees." This is to allow the writer to avoid awkward sentence structure without completely removing the challenge.
Here are the words:
Constricted
Aspiratory
Hatchet

I used a Random Text Generator to come up with three words.
Start the story using the first word. Incorporate the second anywhere into the story. Make the last word in the story the third word.
Plug
Sentry
Shadow
That's it! Have fun!
The aging gunslinger caught movement out of the corner of his eye. He drew his colt as he turned towards it, automatically dropping to a crouching position in the middle of the dusty street.
What does he see?
Your character crash lands on a mysterious planet, and their spaceship ends up totaled. What happens, and what does your character do?
Write a story in which this holds true.
Enjoy!

Two people have just discovered the great secret to time travel. One of them is an idiot, accidentally hits a button that takes them way back to the creation of the universe. God is pissed off, but takes the two characters under his wing while he continues creating the universe.

It's Friday night. School is closed for the weekend. The parents are asleep. A gang of high school teens want to enjoy a teens-only night on the town (they've done this before, but it's been a few months since the last one). Grab some liquor, some pizza, hide from the cops, and enjoy freedom. It's a great night.
They run into trouble. Something they didn't expect. Some thing they would never expect.
TIP: Discount the 1st thing that comes to mind. And the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th – get the obvious out of the way. Surprise yourself.

Imagine you are immortal. You can choose HOW immortal or how immune to injury you are, but the point is you now will live for at least a couple centuries, if not millenia. Write this in the form of two parts: one very early in your new life, and one many, many years after. What has changed in their thoughts? Have they gone insane, or reached a sort of personal enlightenment? And where did their immortality come from?

Try your hand at a horror story! This prompt was just meant to be an example short horror story, but you can base a longer story off of it if you want!
